Essentially, we know that the ability to make and create change takes time. We also know that the bigger the ‘system’, the longer it takes to implement change. Our education systems are quite large. Further, at this day in age, particularly, with technology changing and evolving at rapid rates 

Wisdom, and lifelong learning

    It’s true that change in the classroom takes a while to make, but I think it’s well worth it. This year, I made a huge change from teaching K-2 for 11 years to teaching Grade 6. I really believe in the benefits of giving students control over their learning, incorporating more student choice in the classroom, having students collaborate with each other whenever possible, and making learning meaningful. Some of my beliefs resulted in big changes for the students. They were used to working and learning in certain ways, and there was an adjustment period. It was well worth persevering though. The changes I’ve seen in ALL of my students have been huge. I think we all need to share more of these “positive change stories” for others to see why we should persevere. What do you think?

      Thank you very much for your comments! Sounds like you have made a big role change this year, and have had success with giving students control over their learning. I firmly believe in the power of choice and differentiation. Collaboration is also important, however, this is a task that requires time and the ability to build strong working alliances within the classroom first. I agree with you that it is certainly worth persevering through, however, and we owe it to our students. Thanks again!
